This story doesn't flow well for younger readers. I love the message, but the book is much suited for a child who is in 4th or 5th grade. Unfortunately the students in those grades are reading chapter books by then. Great message, if you have a very advanced 2nd or 3rd grader.
My 2 year old son loves this book. He surprisingly sits through the entire reading fully engaged. This book teaches a child to love himself completely, appreciating his image, his creative imagination as well has his uniqueness.
Bought this book for my son, who was having some self esteem issues at school. He is the only boy of color in his classroom and I felt that he needed to see images of himself or similar, in a book that talked about being yourself and loving who you are.Very cute book. He likes to be read to, but he reads it himself all the time too.I think it did the trick, especially since the character in the book talks about superheros and my kids are superhero crazy!!
Great for self esteem of kids and melaninated children loved seeing someone that looks like them. Even if you have kids that are not black mix up your book collection so they can see kids that look like them.
It started off as a cute book but then towards the end of the story there is a twin brother. It just didn't fit and I wish I could return it but it will cost just as much as the book so I may give it away. I do not recommend.

My little 4yo loved it. Of course, we had a disagreement about whether my son's new name is "marvelous me" or "marvelous you", but nevertheless, we both enjoyed the book. This books offers great talking points for discussing self-esteem and identity issues. I recommend it.
I did not know this was a book about twins. My twins are in love with this book. They can identify with being beautifully brown boys, having different personalities, yet looking alike. Being magnificent! Using their imagination. Great book.
